Member representing Ukwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Godwin Anyamigiobi Adiele, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP).

The defection ceremony took place on Tuesday at his country home in Obokwe Ward, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, and attracted a large crowd of PDP members loyal to the lawmaker, many of whom also declared their support for the Labour Party.

Speaking to journalists on the sideline, Adiele said he had consistently proved his capacity in law making, oversight functions, and constituency representation.

He highlighted several motions he moved in the Abia State House of Assembly, ranging from the one that was instrumental to the Abia State Government sending palliatives when there was a fire outbreak at the popular Ogwe market, stopping reprisal attacks from soldiers against the people of Okohia and Owaza when some soldiers were allegedly killed along the communities, bringing the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to carry out fumigation and remediation works after the oil spillage and inferno that destroyed farmland at Uzuaku, the averting reprisal attacks from the military when a soldier was allegedly killed between Umudobia and Owaza pipeline road to bringing the attention of government to the need to reconstruct the Uratta – Obokwe – Ugwati road.

Continuing the lawmaker said the motions he had moved included the motion addressing: the killing of Miss Ocheze at the Inner Galaxy company and staff welfare and recruitment of indigenes based on the provisions of the law on local content, the killing of one Nwamaka at Ugwati, leading to the employment of his apouse and building of a house for her by the State government, the dilapidation of Owaza Cottage Hospital, non-payment of more than two years staff salaries by NEPL, leading to clearing of the outstanding salary arrears, the alleged killing of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps by unknown persons at Obiakpu, culminating in the safe return of the people who had deserted their homes as a result of the unfortunate incident, and also moved a motion, which is currently at the Committee stage, for the installation of proper and identifiable streets signages across the major cities in Abia State.

Adiele also revealed that he sponsored bills for the domiciliation and implementation of the local content law, establishment of the Abia State Oil and Gas Policy Centre (due for public hearing), and establishment of Abia State Flood Insurance Policy Programme, which is at the Committee stage, having passed the first and second reading.

Reeling out his achievements in Constituency representation, Hon. Adiele listed some interventions across education, health, infrastructure, empowerment, and social welfare, including:

  1. University scholarships to three Asa students, who have already graduated from the Abia State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt,
  2. Scholarships to four secondary school students,
  3. Awarded another set of University scholarships to three students (Nmesoma Jersey, Divine Ugochukwu Nwankwo, Precious Emenike) currently studying at the Ebonyi State University, Abia State University and the University of Port Harcourt,
  4. Renovated two health centres at Obokwe,
  5. Attracted the construction of four classroom block at Umuenene, Obuzor,
  6. Grading of Umuekechi – Obokwe road, Obokwe – Umuiku Isi Asa road, and Obokwe – Ugwati road,
  7. Attracted the renovation of Obokwe Secondary School main hall,
  8. Widening and bulldozing of Obiakpu – Umuelechi link road in Obuzor,
  9. Provided palliatives for constituents during COVID-19,
  10. Built a meeting hall at Obehie market,
  11. Revived Obokwe Secondary School by paying school fees for more than 100 students for one year, and bought books for them,
  12. Attracted digital teaching aids for Obokwe Secondary School,
  13. Constructed a water borehole at Owo Ala, Asa,
  14. Installation of low tension electric poles at Umuko Ugwati,
  15. Tiling of Amaukwu Ezi hall at Umuadienwe, Asa,
  16. Ceiling of Umuokeato Hall at Mkpukwe,
  17. Construction of market stalls at Obokwe,
  18. Graded Obibor internal roads,
  19. Purchased a Highlander SUV for a constituent,
  20. Purchased ten (10) motorcycles for constituents,
  21. Numerous financial support to constituents,
  22. Purchased a Volkswagen Vento for an aide,
  23. Sponsored many constituents in artisan and vocational skills, including welding, sewing, POP work, Barbing, Mechanics, Electricals, and bought start-up kits for some,
  24. Facilitated the employment of two constituents into the Abia State Civil Service,
  25. Strong leadership in the Assembling together of Asa sons and daughters to raise money for the restoration of electricity light,
  26. Active role as a frontliner in the Asa Think Tank project.

Concluding, Adiele said he is one of the most outspoken and dedicated lawmakers in the Abia State House of Assembly, adding that he maintains a sound record of attendance and participation in legislative sessions.
