Businessman and philanthropist, Chima Anyaso, has received a major political boost ahead of the 2027 general elections, following his endorsement by former elected councillors in Abia State as their consensus candidate for the Bende Federal House of Representatives seat.

The endorsement was announced in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area, where Anyaso hosted members of the group. The former councillors, who served between 1999 and 2002, expressed confidence in his leadership capacity and long-standing commitment to grassroots development across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the group, their State Coordinator, Hon. Tony Agbayim, described Anyaso—popularly known as “Ofuji”—as a dedicated supporter of communities, noting that his impact has been widely felt despite not holding public office.

Agbayim said the decision to back Anyaso was unanimous, stressing that his track record of philanthropy and community support makes him well-suited for national representation.

“We are with you 100 per cent. We will campaign and ensure your victory in the 2027 election,” he stated.

The group also used the occasion to reaffirm its support for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, commending his administration for what they described as a restoration of hope and good governance in the state.

In his response, Anyaso expressed deep appreciation to the former councillors for their endorsement, describing it as a vote of confidence in his aspiration to serve the people of Bende at the National Assembly.

He praised Governor Otti’s leadership, noting that the administration has delivered visible development and renewed optimism among Abia residents. He particularly commended the governor for addressing outstanding arrears owed to former councillors, many of whom had waited years for their entitlements.

Anyaso also reflected on the challenges faced by some councillors under previous administrations, expressing regret over the hardship endured, including cases of individuals who reportedly died while awaiting their benefits.

Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Anyaso formally declared his intention to contest the Bende Federal Constituency seat in 2027, stating that the time had come for him to contribute more directly to governance.

“Our state deserves people of integrity in public office. We must ensure that credible individuals are elected to represent the people,” he said.

He further called for unity among pro-government political groups, including the “Otti Again 2027” and “Otti or Nothing 2027” movements, to consolidate support for the governor’s re-election bid.

Highlighting his political stance, Anyaso noted that he respected the principle of equity in 2023 by not contesting, but affirmed readiness to enter the race in 2027.

“I respected the principle of equity in 2023 and did not contest, but in 2027, we are ready and equipped to represent our people at the National Assembly,” he added.

The motion to adopt Anyaso as the consensus candidate was moved by Hon. Godwin Uchenna Ndom, Coordinator of Former Councillors in Bende LGA, and seconded by Hon. Prince Kanu. It received unanimous approval from members of the group.

The councillors also reaffirmed Governor Alex Otti as their sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, pledging to mobilize support for both his re-election and Anyaso’s National Assembly bid.
