Abia Health Commissioner Commends Chima Anyaso Foundation as Bende Free Eye Outreach Ends

The Abia State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, has praised the Chima Anyaso Foundation for what he described as a life-changing humanitarian intervention, as the five-day free eye outreach in Bende came to a close.

Speaking during the final day of the medical outreach, Professor Uche expressed satisfaction with the impact of the programme on beneficiaries across the constituency, noting that many residents had regained hope through improved eye care services.

“I want to believe that our people can see with our eyes now. We can also hear with our ears and touch with our hands. We have seen the Ofuji phenomenon and it is now left for us to interpret what we have seen and use it,” the commissioner stated.

He described the outreach as a commendable effort deserving of continuity and wider support, adding that the Abia State Ministry of Health was pleased with the intervention and would relay its outcome to Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

According to him, the partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Chima Anyaso Foundation is expected to grow stronger in the coming years.

“I want to say that the Ministry of Health is very, very happy with what you are doing. We will take word back to His Excellency and we hope that our relationship with the Chima Anyaso Foundation will continue to grow. I want to believe that even next year, it will be better,” he said.

Professor Uche also commended the people of Bende, describing the area as one known for producing capable sons and daughters committed to the development of society.

“Bende has never lacked good people to represent them. That is why when we have those who are not doing what we want, it is not difficult for us to have a replacement. We always have great crops of sons and daughters of Bende who are qualified to answer the call,” he added.

The commissioner specifically applauded Chief Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for funding the outreach, urging him to sustain the initiative while encouraging other well-meaning individuals to emulate such gestures.

“We are happy that Chief Anyaso foots the bill. We want him to continue doing more for our people and we will continue to support him. We also want to encourage other people because what we have seen is what we want to continue and even become bigger — an example many others will follow,” he stated.

Professor Uche further advised beneficiaries to strictly adhere to medical instructions given by doctors and called for proper documentation of patients attended to during the programme to ensure adequate follow-up care by the Ministry of Health.

He also commended the technical and medical teams involved in the outreach for their sacrifices and dedication throughout the exercise.

The five-day free eye outreach, organised by the Chima Anyaso Foundation in collaboration with the Rebirth Ministry and Precious Sight Foundation and supported by the Abia State Government, provided free eye examinations, treatments, and other medical support to residents across several communities in Bende Federal Constituency.
