The Reality Organisation has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dissolve the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Abia State, accusing the Chijioke Chukwu-led leadership of partiality, poor judgement and failure to unite members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made the call in a statement signed by Dimgba Okereke on behalf of the organisation, following the recent decision by the Abia APC SWC to withdraw its threat of disciplinary action against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, and other party members.

Reality Organisation described the development as a “face-saving exercise,” arguing that the withdrawal of the disciplinary threat did not amount to genuine reconciliation.

According to the organisation, the SWC created an unnecessary controversy by threatening disciplinary action against Kalu over comments he made during a television interview regarding Governor Alex Otti’s chances of securing re-election in 2027.

The group maintained that Kalu’s comments did not constitute an anti-party offence, stressing that expressing an assessment of another politician’s electoral prospects should not be interpreted as an endorsement.

“Reality Organisation stated from the outset that Senator Kalu committed no anti-party offence,” the statement said, adding that “a prediction is not an endorsement.”

The organisation further accused Chukwu and members of the SWC of lacking the neutrality and political temperament required to manage the competing interests within the Abia APC.

It alleged that the party leadership had applied disciplinary measures selectively, claiming that other individuals associated with the party had made political statements perceived to be favourable to Governor Otti without facing similar threats or disciplinary proceedings.

The group cited Senator Emma Nwaka, former lawmaker Christopher Enweremadu and Professor ACB Agbazuere among those whose political positions, it claimed, had not attracted similar action from the SWC.

It also referenced comments allegedly made by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in praise of Governor Otti at an event in Umuahia, questioning why such instances did not attract the same disciplinary response.

“Party discipline cannot become an instrument of political vendetta, selectively deployed against perceived opponents while allies and associates are conveniently shielded from scrutiny,” the organisation said.

Reality Organisation consequently urged the APC National Working Committee to intervene in the affairs of the Abia chapter and dissolve the current SWC.

It argued that the state leadership had failed to provide the “impartial, credible and unifying leadership” needed to position the party for the 2027 elections.

The organisation also announced plans to convene a meeting in October to review the political situation within the Abia APC and determine what it described as the appropriate leadership direction for its members and supporters across the state.

It said the meeting would consider “far-reaching decisions” concerning the leadership of the party and the interests of its members.

Reality Organisation stressed, however, that its criticism was directed at the current state leadership and not at the APC itself.

The group said it remained committed to the APC and its success but would not equate loyalty to the party with support for what it described as incompetent leadership.

“Chijioke Chukwu had an opportunity to unite the Abia APC. He has failed,” the statement declared, while calling on the national leadership to intervene before the situation worsens.

The organisation said Abia APC members deserved leadership capable of building unity and confidence within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
