Organised Labour and Civil Society Organisations in Bende Local Government Area have endorsed Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, OFUJI, as their sole candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

The endorsement was made on Friday, August 28, 2026, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Toxydon Hotel and Suites, Umuagu Ibeku, Umuahia. Leaders said the decision signals a new chapter focused on people-centred representation, accountability, workers’ welfare and grassroots development.
Speaking for Labour, Comrade Mayor Emeka Joseph Ugboaja, Head of Information, National Union of Electricity Employees, said the movement was backing one of its own. He recalled the late NLC Secretary-General, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, who urged Labour to support Dr. Anyaso in 2027.

“We don’t want people who will come and give us bad roads. Our late leader said, ‘Go and deliver OFUJI,’ because he believes so much that his time has come,” Ugboaja said.
He announced that all Labour and Civil Society structures in Bende will be collapsed for the Labour Party candidate. “Today, we have done it that Dr. Chima Anyaso is the only candidate for the Organised Labour Movement and Civil Society.”
Comrade Chile Agubuche, representing the NLC General Secretary, confirmed the directive from Labour House to mobilise across Bende. “This Forum has adopted you as our candidate for the 2027 Bende Federal Constituency election,” he said, adding that the partnership will include grassroots mobilisation, voter education and community campaigns.
Comrade Promise Onwukwe, Clerk of the Abia State House of Assembly, said the ceremony showed confidence in Dr. Anyaso and reaffirmed workers’ commitment to the Labour Party.

CSO representative Comrade C. E. Achonye Esq., Executive Director, Women in Politics Network, cited Dr. Anyaso’s work through the Cedes Foundation in humanitarian support, youth and women empowerment as proof of service. The CSOs pledged voter sensitisation and requested logistical support, including a vehicle, for town-hall outreach.
Dr. Anyaso thanked the stakeholders and called the adoption historic. “In the history of House of Representatives and the Labour Union, they are coming together to adopt a candidate, and that candidate is me.”
He also congratulated Labour for supporting Governor Dr. Alex Otti and promised to deliver in Bende. “I assure you that I will not let the Labour Union down. The same way our Governor has performed in Abia State, that is the same way I will perform in Bende.”
