Hon. Nkem Ukandu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has announced his withdrawal from the race.

Ukandu made the announcement in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, following the publication by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the list of candidates for the 2027 elections, in which he was listed as the ADC candidate for the constituency.
The former candidate said his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, associates, mentors and other people he deeply respects.
According to him, the decision was reached after careful consideration and represents what he believes is the right step to take at this time.

Ukandu expressed appreciation to individuals who supported his aspiration to represent the people of Bende in the House of Representatives, saying he was deeply grateful to everyone who believed in, encouraged and stood behind his ambition.
He, however, stressed that his withdrawal from the contest should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from Bende or his commitment to the welfare and development of the people of the constituency.
“My withdrawal from the race is not a withdrawal from Bende or from my commitment to the good people of Bende,” he said.

Ukandu further disclosed that he would, in due course, announce the candidate he intends to support in the election.
He said his eventual choice would be based on the candidate’s vision, character and commitment to the ideals he would have pursued had he remained in the race.
“In due season, I will declare my support for the candidate whose vision, character and commitment most closely reflect what I would have sought to achieve if elected,” he stated.
The ADC candidate concluded by thanking his supporters for their confidence in him and reaffirmed his appreciation for their support throughout his political journey.
His withdrawal is expected to reshape the political contest for the Bende Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
