The Asa Liberation Movement (ALM) has selected Engr. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke of the Labour Party as its preferred consensus candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwoke emerged as the movement’s preferred candidate after securing 17 votes in a mock election conducted on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the country home of ALM President, Hon. Emeka Adiele.
The exercise was organised following a resolution reached at the movement’s general meeting on October 12, 2026, mandating its executives and stakeholders to select preferred candidates through a consultative process.

A total of 29 participants were invited to the mock election, while 23 cast their votes under the supervision of an electoral committee chaired by Comrade Precious Nwogboso, with Chukwudi Iwu serving as secretary.
The official results showed that Nwoke of the Labour Party secured 17 votes, while Barr. Sam Nworgu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received six votes. Barr. Chimela Oforji of the NDC did not receive any vote.
With the outcome, Nwoke emerged as the movement’s preferred candidate, although his selection is still subject to formal adoption by the ALM leadership on a date to be announced.

In a statement signed by the movement’s secretary, Uju Ihunanyachukwu, and its president, Hon. Emeka Adiele, ALM described the exercise as a significant step towards building political consensus, strengthening internal democracy and establishing a common political direction for the Asa people ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement said its decision was driven by the need to secure effective representation, stronger advocacy and improved constituency development for the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West.
According to the statement, the ultimate objective is to strengthen the political voice of the Ukwa people and ensure that their concerns, welfare and aspirations receive adequate attention.
Following the outcome of the exercise, ALM called on its members, supporters and stakeholders to remain peaceful, disciplined and committed to unity and collective progress.
The movement also urged sustained engagement with political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, youth groups, women and other segments of Ukwa society to promote understanding and strengthen its political objectives.
ALM maintained that the mock election reflected its commitment to consultation, participation and democratic decision-making, while emphasising that Nwoke’s candidacy would require formal adoption by the movement.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the movement urged the people of Asa to embrace peace, respect the consultative process and work towards a common goal of securing better opportunities and effective representation for the constituency.
The statement concluded with a call for unity and collective responsibility, declaring that the future of Asa should be shaped by meaningful consultations and decisions that advance the interests of the people.
