Ahead 2027 General Elections, stakeholders and opinion leaders across the constituency have zeroed in on Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji as having an edge over other candidates for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency considering his proven track record as a former lawmaker.
Their reasons unequivocally articulated in a statement could be compressed in a bullet-point article thus:
i. The affirmed that Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, the APC candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South is not merely a candidate, but a seasoned legislator with a formidable track record garnered during his sojourn as a Majority Leader and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.
According to them, his 2027 mission is simple – to escalate a high standard of representation to the House of Representatives to secure vital federal funding, infrastructure, and national opportunities for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency.
“It goes without saying that lawmaking at the Federal level is no place for learning on the job. It demands mastery of parliamentary procedure, sharp negotiation skills, and the proven ability to build bridges across political divides. Having already delivered exceptional leadership at the State level, Rt Hon Orji stands out as the ultimate choice”, they affirmed
ii. Executive-Legislative Harmony
As Speaker, Orji transformed a once-turbulent political climate into a model of synergy and progress. Former Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu testified to this, noting that their mutual trust became a key pivot for the State’s growth. The Assembly under Orji was a powerhouse of people-oriented laws – including the ground-breaking Disability Law and the State’s domestication of the Diaspora Law, which earned commendations from the Presidency.
iii. The Direct Touch Doctrine
While many politicians wait for government intervention, Orji pioneered the ‘Direct Touch Initiative’ – a hands-on approach focused on direct human capital development investment. His visible impact on the constituency remains woven into the fabric of several communities
Some of the landmark projects under the Direct Touch Initiative include over 500 youths trained in free ICT programmes, vocational skill training for women/youths and continuous scholarships for indigent students.
Even Communities benefited from the Direct Touch Initiative as within the period, eight mini-stadiums were constructed across the three LGAs of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, school were renovated, and communities had access to rural electrification, and clean water projects.
iv. Quality Representation & Open Access
Orji as a State lawmaker offered quality representation and was easily accessible to his constituents. He maintains that representation should never happen behind closed doors. He promises under his watch to operate with a functional constituency offices, hold regular town hall meetings, and transmit transparent progress reports s that every community remains connected to their representative.
v. The Federal Vision and Mission
Rt Hon Orji promises leveraging on his experience and connection to ensure that through the Appropriation Act and committee positions, to attract major road, power, and water projects while pushing to complete stalled Federal interventions across Ikwuano and Umuahia North/South
vi. Economic Empowerment & Digital Growth
The former Speaker also promises to scale his proven Direct Touch doctrine and link youths directly to ICT programmes, national grants, employment initiatives, and Federal opportunities.
vii. Inclusive Healthcare, Education & Welfare
Building on a record that speaks for itself, Rt Hon Orji proffers that his legislative agenda will champion expanded scholarships, stronger primary healthcare systems, and the deliberate inclusion and protection of under-represented persons, including women/children, youths and persons with disabilities.
viii. The stakeholders maintain that Rt Hon Orji offers a seamless transition from local impact at the State level to Federal influence through the National Assembly ”Rt Hon Chinedum Orji brings the experience, integrity, and political weight needed to ensure Ikwuano/Umuahia gets its fair share of the national cake”, they argued, stressing that all hands must be on deck to mobilise massive votes for him in 2027.
ix. Social Contract
Rt Hon Orji further promised to enter into a Social Contract agreement with the citizens of Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South which will spell out their expectations and his affirmation to deliver accordingly or even beyond their expectations
x. Voice for The People
Rt Hon Chinedum Orji also promises to be a voice articulating the aspirations, desires and demands of the people. He said: “I will dedicate myself in championing the concerns and aspirations of our Constituency for a better life and good governance”
