Civil Liberties Organization CLO, Anambra State Branch has decried and lamented over the decrepit and deplorable conditions of failed Federal Roads in the state and appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare state of emergency on the roads and direct Hon. Minister of Works Senator Davi Umahi to pay urgent and immediate on the spot assessments visits to see pathetic and despicable conditions of the roads as well as monumental sufferings, agony, pains, discomforts and destruction of vehicles on daily basis citizens experiences.
Most regrettable is that it has cost avoidable loss of lives, incessant accidents, kidnappings, criminalities and exacerbated insecurity in Anambra State and beyond.
This is contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Awka Anambra State themed “Whatever that affect one directly, affects all indirectly” endorsed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme AMBP-UN Chairman and Comrade Chidi Mbah Secretary pleaded for prompt actions to remedy the pathetic and detestable situation.

CLO most passionately appeal to President Tinubu to directs Minister of Works, FERMA to embark on prompt rehabilitation of the roads especially Onitsha -Owerri road, 3-3-Otuocha roads Onitsha-Awkuzu-Awka -Enugu, Nnewi-Uga-Okigwe road. It is an existential reality that must of the roads was awarded during administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo,twenty years after some of them were neglected and abandoned.
It is very unfortunate that journey that is supposed to take one hour, now take more than three hours. Citizens, commuters, residents are seeking urgent Federal Government intervention to remedy the pathetic situation as transport fare has skyrocketed beyond the ability of majority of the citizens.
It is noteworthy that 3-3- Aguleri -Otuocha road that link Anambra State to Kogi State and FCT, thus traveling to Abuja will be just four hours when completed.
Pertinently, constructions and rehabilitation of the roads will bring accelerated socioeconomic development, gives people sense of belonging, restored people’s faith, hope in government and it will also saves money and time.
Similarly we thanks Gov. Soludo for his unprecedented roads constructions and rehabilitation. We appeal to Gov. Soludo to extend such good gesture to Bida Road, Creek Rd that lead to popular Main Market, Onitsha, Construct dilapidated Azia Road which the bridge collapsed since April this year without any government attention as the people has been disconnected.
“l was shocked and devastated when I was going to St.Paul Seminary Ukpor yesterday, I discovered that the road is now inaccessible and dilapidated. We are appealing for urgent government and public spirited individuals intervention to rescue the pathetic and pitiable condition.
His Excellency Professor Charles Soludo should kindly dispatch his Commissioner for Works and Transport to visit the affected areas to get first hand information for urgent government attention, actions and interventions CLO posited.
The President should out of usual patriotism and magnanimity direct Federal Emergency Roads Maintenance Agency to commence rehabilitation of the failed roads with utmost urgency and immediacy it deserved.
It will certainly help to tackle insecurity and ameliorates excruciating sufferings and agony citizens bear on daily basis as a result of deplorable and deteriorating condition of the roads.
