The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has commended philanthropist and founder of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, Chief Sir Emeka Offor, for providing humanitarian assistance to 3,000 indigent widows in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

The organization said the distribution of 6,000 bags of 50-kilogramme long-grain rice to the beneficiaries demonstrated Offor’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable members of society.

In a statement issued to journalists in Awka and jointly signed by the CLO Anambra State Chairman, Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme AMBP-UN, and the State Secretary, Comrade Chidi Mbah, the organization described the intervention as timely, particularly amid rising living costs and food insecurity affecting many households.

The CLO said the gesture had provided significant relief to the beneficiaries, describing it as both a humanitarian intervention and a practical contribution to poverty alleviation.

“The gesture by Sir Emeka Offor is a patriotic act, a poverty alleviation strategy, and a humanitarian intervention that puts smiles on the faces of those who need it most,” the organization said.

The CLO also praised the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation for its interventions in health, education and social welfare, noting that its activities had extended beyond Anambra State to communities across Nigeria and beyond.

According to the organization, the latest intervention in Oraifite further underscores the foundation’s reputation for supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.

While commending Offor for the assistance to the widows, the CLO appealed to him to extend his educational empowerment initiatives to Ekwusigo Local Government Area through the construction of a modern public library.

It also called for the urgent rehabilitation and equipping of the Onitsha Divisional Library, which it described as dilapidated and inadequately equipped to meet the needs of students, researchers and members of the public.

The organization said humanitarian intervention should not be limited to immediate relief but should also include investments capable of producing long-term benefits for communities.

“Investing in education infrastructure such as libraries will create generational impact and empower youths with knowledge and opportunities,” the CLO stated.

The organization further urged other philanthropists, corporate bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Offor’s commitment to giving back to society.

The CLO reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human rights, good governance and social justice in Anambra State and Nigeria.
