The President of the Igbo Community London (ICL), Chief Valentine Chukwuemeka-Akudinobi, has issued a strong and urgent advisory to Igbo elders in the diaspora, calling for immediate action, accountability, and renewed commitment to leadership responsibilities.

In a statement released from his office, the ICL President addressed Ndi Ichie (Igbo elders) with a tone of respect, but also firmness and urgency, stressing that the time had come for decisive leadership within the community.

He described elders as the “moral compass and custodians of values,” emphasizing that the strength and unity of the Igbo community largely depend on their conduct and involvement. According to him, when elders stand united and act decisively, the community thrives—but when they remain silent, divided, or inactive, the foundation of the community begins to weaken.

The statement made it clear that silence in the face of wrongdoing, inaction, and any form of participation in divisive activities would no longer be tolerated.

“We cannot continue to preach unity while tolerating behaviours that destroy it,” the statement noted, adding that elders must lead by example, especially in demonstrating discipline, integrity, and accountability.

The ICL President called on Ndi Ichie across the diaspora to immediately rise to their responsibilities by speaking out against wrongdoing, rejecting all forms of division, and actively participating in community affairs. He stressed that leadership must be demonstrated through visible actions rather than mere titles.

He further urged elders to set the standard in conduct, respect, and commitment at all times, warning that choosing comfort over responsibility could hinder the progress of the community.

Highlighting the influence of elders on younger generations, Chief Valentine Chukwuemeka-Akudinobi noted that Igbo youths are closely observing the actions and decisions of their leaders. He cautioned that failure to address current challenges could have lasting consequences for the future of the community.

“This is a call to order. This is a call to discipline. This is a call to true leadership,” the statement declared.

The advisory concluded with a strong appeal for unity and collective responsibility, urging elders to rise above personal interests and act in the best interest of Ndi Igbo, both at home and in the diaspora.

Reaffirming the importance of principled leadership, the ICL President stated that the future of the Igbo community would not be built on words alone, but on decisive and committed action.
