A man suspected of impersonating a retired senior military officer has been arrested by troops of the Nigerian Army deployed at the 312 Artillery Regiment Strike Force Base in the Sabo area.

Military sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on the morning of the operation following credible intelligence reports that led security personnel to his location.

According to the sources, the arrest was carried out at approximately 9:14 a.m. after troops identified the individual allegedly posing as retired Major General A.T. Ibrahim.

“The individual was arrested for allegedly impersonating Maj.-Gen. A.T. Ibrahim (rtd) and is currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation,” a military source revealed.

The suspect is currently being held by the military while initial investigations are conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and any possible offences that may have been committed using the false identity.

Sources further disclosed that upon completion of preliminary military procedures, the suspect would be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for a comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution.

As of the time of filing this report, military authorities have not revealed the motive behind the alleged impersonation. It also remains unclear whether the suspect used the identity of the retired senior officer to gain access to restricted areas, obtain favours, or carry out any fraudulent activities.

Security agencies, however, said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s actions and identify any potential accomplices.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat impersonation, fraud, and other activities capable of undermining public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.

Authorities have assured that further details will be made available as investigations progress.
