The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso (Ofuji Global), on Thursday visited the devastating erosion site at Ama Amamba, Uzuakoli, where he assured residents that he would work hand in hand with Governor Alex Otti’s administration to ensure the ecological disaster receives the urgent attention it deserves.
The visit attracted top government officials and community leaders, including the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye, who represented Governor Alex Otti, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere, the President General of the Uzuakoli Development Association and Deputy Chairman of the Abia State Labour Party, Barr. Prince Chigoziem Okechukwu, alongside other senior government officials and stakeholders.
On his arrival at Ama Amamba, Dr. Anyaso received a rousing welcome from residents before proceeding to the Obi, where the traditional rulers of the community formally received and endorsed him. Amid prayers, blessings, and traditional libations, the monarchs expressed confidence in his commitment to the welfare and development of Bende Federal Constituency.

A major highlight of the visit was the presentation by the President General, Barr. Prince Chigoziem Okechukwu, who gave a detailed account of how the devastating erosion began, the destruction it has caused over the years, and the repeated neglect by successive administrations.
He also lamented that despite the severity of the disaster, the community has received little attention, including from the current member representing the constituency, even though one of the erosion victims is reportedly a close associate of the lawmaker.
Addressing journalists after inspecting the site, Dr. Anyaso emphasized that the visit was in line with the environmental restoration agenda of Governor Alex Otti’s administration. He assured the people that discussions were already underway and expressed confidence that the erosion challenge would receive prompt government intervention.
“Our people deserve more than promises. They deserve action. I am committed to partnering with Governor Alex Otti to ensure this ecological disaster is addressed. The days of abandonment are coming to an end,” Dr. Anyaso stated.
The visit further reinforced Dr. Anyaso’s reputation as a leader who prioritizes direct engagement with communities and practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people of Bende.
