The Anambra State chapter of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) has congratulated former Anambra State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on his 64th birthday, describing him as a moral compass whose leadership has continued to inspire millions of Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Awka, the State Chairman of the CLO, Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, praised Obi’s contributions to public service, saying his leadership style has demonstrated that politics can be driven by integrity, accountability and compassion.
According to Ezekwueme, Obi has distinguished himself through humility, prudence, selflessness and a commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, qualities he said have earned the former governor respect across political, ethnic and generational divides.
He noted that Obi’s approach to governance has consistently emphasized morality, equity, competence and people-oriented leadership, adding that his public record continues to serve as a reference point for responsible political leadership in the country.
The human rights activist said Nigerians should mark Obi’s birthday by embracing the values he represents rather than limiting the celebration to festivities and goodwill messages.
“The greatest birthday gift Nigerians can give to Mr. Peter Obi is to emulate his political philosophy of service, morality, merit and accountability. Citizens should focus on what they can contribute to national development instead of what they stand to gain from the country,” he stated.
Ezekwueme also commended Obi’s record of transparency and financial discipline, arguing that it challenges the long-held belief that honesty and politics cannot coexist.
He offered prayers for God’s continued guidance, protection, wisdom and good health for the former governor as he celebrates his 64th birthday.
The CLO chairman further called on the Federal Government to strengthen security around political leaders, particularly presidential candidates, citing the country’s prevailing security challenges.
According to him, safeguarding political actors is essential for sustaining democratic governance and ensuring that elections are decided through ideas and the will of the people rather than violence.
He maintained that protecting those seeking public office would help deepen Nigeria’s democracy and promote peaceful political participation across the country.
