Peter Eze, the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Enugu State and a long-time aide to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that the incumbent senator for Abia North Senatorial District is poised to retain his seat unopposed in the 2027 general elections, citing the lawmaker’s outstanding performance.
Speaking during a private visit to Umuahia on Monday, Eze emphasized that in democracy, “performance speaks louder than promises,” and that good governance earns renewed mandates through re-election.
Eze highlighted education as a cornerstone of Kalu’s achievements, noting that over 120 classroom blocks have been built or renovated across Abia North through the senator’s interventions. These projects include provision of desks, textbooks—with a focus on science and technology subjects—and scholarships, with more than 20 youths from the district currently studying Medicine abroad via Kalu’s foundation. Many former beneficiaries of his free education initiatives, including books, uniforms, and meals, are now voters who recall his support.
On infrastructure, Eze stated that every clan in Arochukwu/Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi has benefited from at least one road project linked to Kalu. Many communities received their first tarred roads either during his governorship or senate tenure, alongside rural electrification and health centers. All former ABSIEC wards in the district have seen constituency projects, including multiple school renovations per ward.
The commissioner praised Kalu’s leadership style as peaceful, noting he avoids interference in chieftaincy, development union, or traditional matters, earning broad respect in a zone prone to local political tensions.
Eze reserved his strongest praise for economic impacts, claiming Kalu attracted approximately $500 million in foreign direct investment. Key projects include an operational cashew processing factory in Igbere creating jobs for farmers, a solar light manufacturing factory under construction (the first in Abia State), a forthcoming tricycle assembly plant to boost youth employment and transport, and large-scale farms in cassava, cocoa, and other crops.
“Elections boil down to simple questions: Who has improved my life? Who has delivered results?” Eze concluded. “In Abia North, the answers point clearly to Senator Kalu—better schools, new roads, jobs, and sustained peace.”
