On International Day of the Girl Child, the students of Igbere Secondary School experienced a moment of hope and inspiration as Neya Uzor Kalu, an accomplished businesswoman, extended a generous hand to support their education.
Though unable to attend the event in person, Mrs. Kalu’s representative, Mrs. Oluomachi, delivered a compelling message of encouragement alongside a ₦500,000 donation intended to ease school fees for deserving students. In addition, Mrs. Kalu contributed school bags, textbooks, sanitary products, and other essential learning materials—providing not only immediate relief but also reinforcing the vital importance of education for young girls.
Speaking through her envoy, Mrs. Kalu emphasized education as a powerful tool for empowerment, stating, “Every girl deserves the chance to learn, to dream, and to become what she aspires to be. Education is the greatest gift we can offer, and it has the power to transform our society.”
Her message urged students to persevere through challenges and maintain focus on their academic goals. “Don’t let your background limit your vision. Work hard, stay committed, and believe in your potential. The future belongs to those prepared to embrace it,” she said.
Mrs. Kalu’s commitment to girls’ education extends beyond one-time donations. She founded the “Girls’ Education Support Program,” which provides scholarships, mentorship, and resources for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds across the region. Through this initiative and her influential platform as a publisher, The Sun newspapers, she actively advocates for educational access and gender equality.
Her advocacy underscores a broader vision: that educating girls is a cornerstone of national development.
“When we educate a girl, we uplift an entire family, community, and country,” Mrs. Kalu said.
“The progress of our nation depends on how well we support our young girls.”
The students responded with heartfelt gratitude, visibly inspired by Mrs. Kalu’s generosity and empowering words. Many expressed renewed determination to pursue their studies and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Mrs. Kalu’s own career is a testament to her message. As a successful entrepreneur breaking barriers in male-dominated fields, she models resilience and ambition for young girls aspiring to overcome societal constraints.
Her ongoing efforts have earned her recognition, including the “Women Empowerment Award” and the title of “Education Champion,” affirming her role as a leading advocate for girls’ education in Nigeria.
As the International Day of the Girl Child celebrations concluded, the impact of Mrs. Kalu’s support was evident—not only in the material gifts but in the inspiration and hope instilled in the students of Igbere Secondary School.
Her dedication to empowering the next generation serves as a beacon for communities across the country, reminding everyone – the transformative power of education.
