..Lament Historic Marginalization
Leaders of APC In Onyeaghalanwanneya Court Area of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Imo State, have made a passionate appeal to Gov Hope Uzodimma to help end the historic and long standing exclusion and marginalization of Ngor Okpala Political Bloc in the politics of Owerri Zone, by using his powers to help it get the 2027 APC Senate ticket for Imo East Senatorial District, Owerri Zone.
According to them, if the governor who they described as a listening governor with deep knowledge about the seeming perennial political predicament of the area in Owerri Zone, brings their marginalization in Owerri Zone politics to an end, he would have succeeded in writing his name not only in the minds and history of the people of the area, but also in minds and history of the state, as a foremost defender and advocate for fairness, justice and equity.
The leaders who made the passionate call at a meeting of the two political wards of the Court Area, Logara/Umuohiagu and Obiangwu/Ezemba Wards,on Sunday, July 27, 2025, also urged leaders and peoples of the other blocs in the zone, Mbaise, Mbaike and Owerri, to throw their weight behind the governor towards the realization of that goal.
According to the Ngor Okpala stakeholders, the leaders and peoples of other blocs in the Senatorial Zone could lend their voice by openly speaking up in support of the agenda, dissuading their sons and daughters from contesting the position in 2027, as well as influencing their different political parties to cede their tickets to only aspirants from the area.
The stakeholders stressed that it was only the Ngor Okpala bloc that has not tasted the office, whiile Mbaise Bloc has tasted it four times, Mbaike Bloc three times, and Owerri Bloc three times. They argued that it would be in the best interest of the zone, to support Ngor Okpala to avoid internal bickering that could harm the overall political strength and unity in the zone.
These calls followed a motion by the Councillor representating Logara/Umuohiagu Ward in the Ngor Okpala Legislative Council, Hon Justus Ekeh, seconded by Comrade Chidi Njoku from Obiangwu/ Ezemba Ward, urging all Ngor Okpala stakeholders to continue their unified appeal to the governor and party leaders on the 2027 Senate tickets.
Leading the litany of appeals that echoed throughout the meeting, former Sole Adminstrator of Ngor Okpala LGA, and APC leader in Ngor Okpala, Chief Clement Nwigwe, noted that they decided to take the story of the unimaginable political marginalization of the council to the governor, because his antecedents show that he has all it takes to address it, having addressed similar issues of justice and equity in the state.
He noted that the issue has assumed an emergency political crisis which if not decisively addressed may negatively impact Owerri Zone and also haunt the Imo polity.
He appealed to the governor to in his usual pragmatic, proactive and people centered leadership style, leave a legacy on the sands of Imo politics by ensuring that the ruling APC gives its ticket to a son of Ngor Okpala for the 2027 election.
Adding his voice, Hon Ignatius Njoku, Coordinator Ngor Okpala North Development Centre, said all political variables favour Ngor Okpala bloc ahead of 2027 and urged its sister blocs to support its strides to go to the Senate. He noted that the council played a significant role in the making of the senators from other blocs, adding that now was time for them to pay it back.
Hon Justus Ekeh, Councillor representating Logara/Umuohiagu Ward, lauded the people of the Court Area for their fervent and continous support for Gov Uzodimma’s government and urged them to remain steadfast.
He further commended their implicit confidence in the capacity of the governor, as demonstrated by the appeal to help APC cede its ticket to the LGA, expressing strong hope that as a sensitive, responsive and people oriented governor he would listen to their plea.
The well attended meeting had in attendance leaders of the party from the two wards in Onyeaghala nwanneya Court Area – Logara/Umuohiagu and Obiangwu/Ezemba Ward.
