The younger brother of the late Igwe Akuma of Okon-Aku community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Igwe Acha, has raised serious concerns over alleged clandestine efforts to secure the release of suspects arrested by the Police in connection with his gruesome killing.
Igwe Akuma Akwu was reportedly shot dead on January 2, 2026, in his community, an incident that sent shockwaves across Ohafia and beyond.
Following the tragic event, operatives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, arrested eight suspects linked to the gruesome murder.
However, speaking on recent developments, Igwe Acha alleged that certain individuals are making desperate moves to interfere with the course of justice.
“Credible information available to me shows that the lawyer of Mr Ben Kama alongside a retired commissioner of police visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja last week, pressuring the police to grant bail to the suspects,” he stated.
He further alleged that:
“A few days ago, I also received information that Engr. Ndukwe Ikoh visited for the same purpose.”
Expressing deep concern over what he described as attempts to undermine justice, Igwe Acha called on the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to intervene decisively.
“Am also aware over the attempt to render apology to Sister Grace Udensi by those who arrested her and almost sent her in Prison, why are they desperate?
He urged the governor to ensure that the findings of any investigative panel set up in relation to the killing are made public.
According to him, transparency and accountability are crucial to ensuring that justice is served and that his late brother does not die in vain.
