Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has commiserated with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, over the demise of his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda, who passed away at the age of 83.
In a heartfelt condolence message issued on Tuesday, Kalu described the late matriarch as a virtuous and devout Christian who lived a fulfilled life in the service of God and humanity.
He noted that Mama Lydia’s values of discipline, compassion, and strong faith were reflected in the life of her children, including Prof. Yilwatda.
“Mama Lydia Yilwatda was a woman of peace, humility, and unwavering faith. She nurtured her family with love and instilled in them the values of hard work and service to mankind. Her demise is a great loss not only to her family but also to the APC family, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large,” Kalu said.
The former Chief Whip of the Senate urged Prof. Yilwatda and the entire Yilwatda family to take solace in the impactful life Mama Lydia lived, praying for God to grant her eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Kalu added: “At this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with my brother, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and his entire family. May the Almighty comfort them and strengthen them.”
Mama Lydia Yilwatda passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2025, at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital.
