An Abia State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, has declared support for the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in 2027, citing what she described as his contributions to infrastructure development, economic empowerment and grassroots representation across Abia North Senatorial District.
Onwuka, President of the Agunwanyi Odo Foundation and an indigene of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area, made the declaration in a statement congratulating Kalu on the completion of his ward-to-ward tour of Ohafia, including his visit to Abiriba.
She said the large turnout of residents during the senator’s engagements reflected their appreciation of his representation and the projects and empowerment initiatives attributed to him since his election to the Senate in 2019.
According to Onwuka, Kalu’s visit featured engagements with traditional institutions, including the palace of the Enachioken of Abiriba, His Royal Majesty Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs Ure Okocha K. Uba.
“Abiriba stood still. From the palace of His Royal Majesty, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, Enachioken of Abiriba, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs Ure Okocha K. Uba, to all our wards, our people came out en masse to receive a beloved son of Abiriba,” she said.
Onwuka Highlights Road Projects Across Abia North
The APC chieftain identified road construction and rural infrastructure as some of the areas in which she believes Kalu has made notable contributions to the district.
She specifically cited the Abiriba ring roads and rural road projects in Abia Ohafia, Akanu, Okamu, Ohafor, Amangwu and Isiugwu, among other communities.
According to her, the projects have improved access to rural communities and supported economic activities by making movement easier for residents, traders and other road users.
“Our people said it themselves: He is the only lawmaker whose impact we have felt,” Onwuka stated.
She also commended the senator’s reported empowerment programmes, which she said included business grants, agricultural support, educational materials and skills acquisition initiatives targeting women and young people.
Onwuka maintained that the programmes had created opportunities for beneficiaries and provided support to households across Abia North, adding that infrastructure development and economic empowerment remained important to the welfare of constituents.
Says Ward-to-Ward Tour Strengthens Engagement
Beyond projects and empowerment, Onwuka said Kalu’s ward-to-ward tour had provided an opportunity for direct interaction between the senator and residents of the communities he represents.
She noted that such engagements allowed constituents to express their concerns, assess his record and make requests for additional development projects.
“He walks our streets, listens to our mothers, sits with our traditional rulers and gives account of his stewardship,” she said.
Onwuka also recalled the senator’s engagement with residents at Ugwu Nchara, where he reportedly pledged to commence construction of the Ogo Ubi farm road by June 2027.
She added that Kalu had promised to facilitate additional schools, healthcare facilities and rural roads if returned to the Senate in the 2027 general election.
According to her, the commitments reinforced her confidence in his leadership and informed her decision to support his re-election bid.
Reaffirms Support for 2027 Senate Bid
The APC chieftain said her endorsement was based on what she described as Kalu’s record of service, accessibility and commitment to the development of Abia North.
“As President of Agunwanyi Odo Foundation, I reiterate my unflinching support for his re-election. Abia North has seen effective representation. We will consolidate the gains,” she said.
She congratulated the senator on the completion of his ward-to-ward tour of Ohafia and expressed hope that his continued representation would lead to further development across the senatorial district.
“Abia North is in safe hands,” Onwuka added.
