2027: Ukwa Frontline Politician, Ukaegbu Appeals For Sacrifice, Understanding On Ukwa East/Ukwa West House of Representatives Seat

A frontline politician in Ukwa Federal Constituency, Comrade Ukaegbu Chimezie Emmanuel, has appealed to the people of Ukwa to show great understanding and make sacrifices regarding the House of Representatives election in 2027.

He appealed specifically to the people of Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State not to forget that brotherhood surpasses politics, adding that the extra four years being sought by the member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chris Nkwonta should not be enough to destroy the good relationship that has spanned years between the two brothers.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ukaegbu recalled that the Ndoki people of Ukwa East Local Government Area had voted massively for an Ukwa West candidate in 2015 and 2019, stressing that the current campaign by the Asa Development Union (ADU) portraying Ukwa East people as power mongers and haters of their brother is unfair and dangerously deceptive.

He disclosed that when it became difficult for the last occupant of the office of member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa East Federal Constituency, the people Ndoki threatened him with petitions.

Ukaegbu, who was the Abia State Coordinator, Hum National Support Group for Tinubu/Shettima in the 2023 general elections stated,

“Ndoki people arose, and threatened him with petitions, articles and everything at their disposal, until he bowed to pressure and absconded from re-contesting. Many of us know the story.

“It was at this juncture that Chief Sir Chris Nkwonta, with the support of Ukwa people contested and won in 2023. Since it has been a normal practice to spend eight years (2 terms), I am appealing to our Asa brothers, to allow Sir Chris Nkwonta to complete his tenure and hand over to our Asa brothers. Let us see ourselves starting afresh. Hon Nkwonta remains a known man of integrity and he is fully committed to relinquishing the House of Representatives position at the end of his second tenure in 2031”.

He concluded by calling on Hon. Chris Nkwonta to sign a written agreement with the ADU that he will personally support an Asa person for House of Representatives in 2031.
