‘I refused to Support Tinubu’s Presidential ambition, I knew him as a Potential Dictator’ – Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a former Presidential aspirant, has said he already knew Bola Tinubu would become a potential dictator when he is elected as President.

Momodu made the statement on Sunday while reiterating his loyalty to Atiku Abubakar. He said he had already known President Tinubu so well that it made him not support his presidential ambition.

Remembering what happened in the build up of the 2023 presidential election, Momodu said he had already purchased a presidential form under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and was ready to contest; however, the party members unanimously agreed to support whoever wins the primaries, which Atiku Abubakar later won.

He recalled that he was given a position by Atiku’s campaign team, which he delivered. Momodu said when Tinubu emerged as APC presidential candidate, he was approached to support him, but he vehemently refused because he knew he would be a potential dictator if he wins.

According to him, he has been proven correct following the recent events in the country.

He said: “Before the PDP Presidential primary, all aspirants pledged to support the eventual winner. I DID.

“I was later given the DIRECTORATE OF STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS to manage for The ATIKU/OKOWA PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION. APC candidate turned out to be ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU, easily the richest man in the race. He also had the structures of the ruling party APC in his palms.

“Some interesting characters suggested I should immediately switch allegiance and support my friend TINUBU. My response was an emphatic NO. I was already committed to ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR and my loyalty cannot waiver.

“In fact, it was a tough job convincing some of our leaders that I was not a mole for TINUBU. Nigerians were used to bad guys who would do anything for money, power and position. I was determined and prayed to be an exception.

“Blackmailers attacked me that because ASIWAJU supported me in exile, I must abandon my party’s candidate and support him by force. I remained steadfast.

“I made sure I ran my campaign as responsibly and professionally as possible and avoided the use of uncouth language throughout. My Boss ATIKU never doubted my sincerity. I had supported ATIKU/OBI in 2019 without charging them a kobo.

“My only controversial statement before the 2023 campaign was when I told SEUN OKINBALOYE of CHANNELS TV, in October 2022, that, if TINUBU wins, he would be a potential dictator. It was not an insult but a statement of fact.

“I think I have been vindicated by recent events.” Momodu concluded.
