CLO Urges Governor Soludo To Intervene In Looming Omasi Town Union Leadership Crisis

The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has issued an urgent appeal to Governor Charles  Chukwuma Soludo to address a leadership dispute that threatens peace in Omasi Town, Ayamelum Local Government Area.

According to a reliable source, the crisis arose after the Chairman of the Town Union failed to present a stewardship report at the general meeting and election scheduled for 31st December  2025 at Omasi community town hall, as required by the community’s constitution.

When the Chairman left the meeting, the community, seeking to avoid a vacuum, appointed Engr. Luke Ezigbo as Ad Hoc President General due to passing of vote of no confidence on former PG Mr. Alfred Okafor. Engr. Luke Ezigbo nominated unanimously as Ad Hoc President‑General presided the meeting and subsequently the community unanimously adopted Mr Sunday Makor as President‑General, following the traditional rotation that assigns the position to Umuata village.

Umuata village in her unique wisdom presented Sunday Makor unopposed.The General Assembly unanimously approved his candidacy based on his competent, capability, character, credibility and acceptability.

In a statement titled “It is only justice, equity, truth that precipitate peace and rapid development,” endorsed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme AMBP-UN Chairman and Comrade Chidi Mbah Secretary, CLO called on Governor Soludo to intervene, and recognize Mr. Sunday Makor, for the sake of peace, unity and socio‑economic development in Omasi Community.

The CLO warned that any individuals or groups that instigate violence will be held accountable and urged the government to make the office of Town Union President‑General less attractive, while ensuring strict adherence to the community constitution during future election.

Recall that the community had earlier held peaceful protest demanding recognition of their consensus PG, Mr.Sunday Makor, chosen during their general election held on 31st December in line with their constitution.The new PG were subsequently presented to HRH Igwe Benjamin Okeji in line with extant law of Omasi Community.

CLO passionately appeal to all Omasi indigenes to respect democratic right of Omasi Community as demonstrated during their general Meeting/Election held on 31st December 2025 for interest of peace, justice, tranquility, harmonious coexistence and rapid development.
