A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mascot Uzor Kalu, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State after purchasing the party’s nomination form.
Kalu, who made the announcement on Tuesday, said the move underscores his firm commitment to vie for the state’s top seat under the APC platform. By obtaining the nomination form, he becomes the first aspirant within the party to officially signal interest in the forthcoming primaries ahead of the 2027 election.

Describing the step as both “valiant” and strategic, the governorship hopeful reassured his supporters of his determination to remain in the race, urging them not to waver in their support. He emphasized that his political journey toward the Abia governorship would not be abandoned midway for any reason.
“To my teeming supporters and followers, do not be shaken; remain resolutely steadfast,” Kalu stated, affirming his resolve to see the contest through to the end.

He also expressed appreciation to party stakeholders for their continued support, specifically acknowledging the Abia State Working Committee and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC for their leadership and direction.
Kalu further thanked party leaders and loyalists who have aligned with his vision for what he described as a “greater Abia,” noting that their encouragement has been instrumental in strengthening his resolve to pursue the governorship ambition.
Political observers say Kalu’s early declaration may shape the dynamics within the APC in Abia State, as the race toward 2027 gradually begins to gather momentum.
