The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has called on the Abia State Government to respect and obey the subsisting court order concerning the disputed Ogwumabiri Land and suspend any further activities relating to the proposed Motor Park/Railway Station pending full legal resolution of the matter.

In a statement signed by the Executive Director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo, the organization expressed concern over reports that despite an existing court injunction, activities connected to the commissioning of the proposed project may still proceed.

According to information made available to HDAN, the High Court of Abia State in a judgment delivered on July 30, 2025 reportedly issued a perpetual injunction restraining the Abia State Government from further entry into the Ogwumabiri Land.

HDAN further noted that although the Abia State Government appealed the judgment, reports indicate that the Court of Appeal on May 6, 2026 dismissed the appeal, thereby leaving the injunction in force.

The organization stated that respect for the rule of law remains fundamental to democratic governance, investor confidence, and sustainable development.

“Housing development, infrastructure growth, and urban expansion can only thrive in an environment where the sanctity of court judgments, property rights, and lawful processes are respected,” the statement said.

HDAN stressed that governments at all levels must avoid actions capable of creating uncertainty around land ownership, property rights, and private sector investments.

According to the organization, Nigeria cannot attract serious local and international investment into housing, infrastructure, real estate, and urban development if court orders are ignored or if investors feel unprotected.

The advocacy group therefore urged the Abia State Government to demonstrate leadership by complying fully with the subsisting court order while all legal and ownership issues are conclusively resolved through lawful judicial processes.

HDAN also called on all parties involved to pursue peaceful dialogue, legal compliance, and responsible engagement in the overall interest of justice, economic stability, and development.

“The private sector plays a major role in housing delivery, infrastructure investment, job creation, and economic growth. Protecting lawful investments and respecting judicial decisions are essential for building investor confidence in any state,” Festus Adebayo stated.

The organization further urged state governments across Nigeria to continue creating investment-friendly environments that encourage partnerships, protect property rights, and strengthen confidence in the nation’s legal and institutional systems.

HDAN reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for transparency, rule of law, sustainable housing development, and responsible urban governance across Nigeria and Africa.

Festus Adebayo
