Businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has described the maiden official visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Abia State as a landmark event that further spotlighted the state’s rich cultural heritage and economic potential.
Anyaso, who joined Governor Alex Chioma Otti and his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, in receiving the First Lady, said the visit underscored the growing national recognition of Abia’s cultural assets, particularly the globally acclaimed Akwete weaving industry.
The First Lady visited Akwete in Ukwa East Local Government Area, where she toured the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Society and attended a civic reception organised by the Abia State Government. The visit highlighted the centuries-old Akwete weaving tradition while drawing attention to the economic opportunities available to local artisans, especially women engaged in the craft.
Speaking on the significance of the visit, Anyaso commended Governor Otti for what he described as his unwavering commitment to preserving the state’s cultural heritage, empowering communities, and positioning Abia as a destination for investment, tourism and economic development.
He noted that the Governor’s efforts in promoting indigenous industries and local entrepreneurship continue to enhance the state’s image both nationally and internationally.
Anyaso also expressed appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for choosing Abia as one of the states to visit, saying her support for initiatives that promote women, culture, enterprise and sustainable economic development would encourage greater recognition and investment in the state’s indigenous industries.
According to him, the visit to Akwete has further elevated the profile of the renowned weaving community and reaffirmed the importance of preserving traditional crafts while creating sustainable livelihoods for local people.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the Federal Government and the Abia State Government would continue to open new opportunities for economic growth and improve the welfare of residents.
Reaffirming his confidence in the state’s future, Anyaso said Abia would continue to build on its strengths by promoting its cultural heritage, supporting entrepreneurship and creating opportunities that would deliver shared prosperity for its people.
He concluded by welcoming the First Lady to Abia, popularly known as God’s Own State, and expressed hope that the visit would leave a lasting positive impact on the state’s cultural and economic landscape.
