Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
In an open letter addressed to Trump, Davido expressed concern over the growing tension surrounding the election, warning of the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
The singer urged relevant authorities to ensure that residents of Osun State are able to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear or intimidation.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” Davido stated.
According to him, the concerns surrounding the election require greater attention from the international community, particularly in ensuring that voters are protected and their votes respected.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.
Davido appealed to the United States and other members of the international community to monitor developments surrounding the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” he added.
The musician stressed that his priority was to see a peaceful electoral process devoid of bloodshed and intimidation.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido declared.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026, with the contest expected to attract significant political attention in the state.
Davido’s intervention comes amid heightened public discussions over the need for a credible and peaceful election in Osun State, with the singer previously indicating that he would seek international attention if he believed anything went wrong during the poll.
