Panic as Podium Collapses During Adeleke’s Re-Election Campaign Event in Osun

A campaign event organized by the Accord Party in Osun State ended abruptly on Wednesday after a podium collapsed, leaving several party members injured during the inauguration of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election canvassers in Ijebu-Jesa, Ori-Ade Local Government Area.

The incident occurred while Governor Ademola Adeleke, his sister, Chief Modupe Adeleke-Sani, and the Chief of Staff, Kazeem Akinleye, were on the stage alongside party officials, supporters, security operatives, and members of the governor’s campaign team.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, captured the moment the overcrowded podium suddenly gave way, sending occupants crashing to the ground.

Also present on the platform at the time of the collapse was the spokesperson of the governor’s re-election campaign council, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, along with several party supporters and officials.

Eyewitnesses attributed the incident to overcrowding, as more supporters reportedly continued to climb onto the stage despite its limited capacity.

Several members of the party sustained varying degrees of injuries during the collapse and were attended to immediately. However, Governor Adeleke, Chief Modupe Adeleke-Sani, and Chief of Staff Kazeem Akinleye were safely rescued by security personnel and did not suffer any reported injuries.

The unexpected development threw the gathering into confusion, forcing organizers to bring the event to an abrupt end as attendees hurriedly dispersed from the venue.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement regarding the exact number of persons injured or the condition of some of the affected party members.

Efforts to obtain further details on the health status of the governor and other key officials involved in the incident were unsuccessful.

The inauguration ceremony was part of activities aimed at mobilizing support ahead of Governor Adeleke’s re-election campaign in Osun State.
