The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ugochukwu Precious, over alleged involvement in violent criminal activities and unlawful possession of a firearm in Aba.
The suspect, a resident of Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Aba North, following a report concerning an alleged unpaid iPhone 17 Pro Max transaction.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the matter was reported to the RRS on September 22, 2026.
The Police said the suspect allegedly obtained the iPhone 17 Pro Max from the seller under a payment-on-delivery arrangement in April 2026 but failed to make payment.
The disagreement reportedly escalated when the suspect allegedly resorted to threats and the use of thugs against the seller.
Following actionable intelligence gathered during the investigation, operatives of the RRS arrested Precious, while the Police said he subsequently made confessional statements in connection with the allegations.
The Command added that a pump-action shotgun was recovered from the suspect on September 23, 2026.
The Police said investigation into the matter is ongoing, while efforts are being made to apprehend other fleeing members of the alleged gang.
The suspect, according to the statement, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, violent crimes and the unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
Afolabi also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to provide the Police with timely and useful information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
