A fatal road accident at Osisioma Junction in Aba, Abia State, has reportedly claimed the lives of two persons, while several others sustained critical injuries after a truck allegedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians.
The accident, which occurred on Friday, reportedly happened when the truck suffered brake failure and crashed into people waiting by the roadside at the busy junction.
Eyewitnesses said two persons died at the scene, while several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
The incident reportedly caused panic and confusion around the junction, as sympathisers and security operatives gathered at the scene to assist in rescue efforts and manage the resulting traffic congestion.
Motorists were advised to avoid the Osisioma Junction area and use alternative routes as traffic movement was severely disrupted following the accident.
Reacting to the tragedy, the member representing Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Munachim Alozie, expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
Alozie described the incident as painful and unfortunate, extending his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and wished those injured in the accident a speedy and full recovery.
The lawmaker urged the affected families to find strength during the difficult period, while expressing concern over the victims of the tragic incident.
