Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has directed his media team, supporters and political associates to stop engaging other candidates ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, saying his campaign should be built around his record in office.

Kalu gave the directive in a statement issued by his office, signed by George Maduka, instructing his supporters to refrain from mentioning, attacking or responding to candidates contesting the Abia North senatorial seat, irrespective of what he described as provocations.

The former Abia State governor said the people of Abia North should be allowed to assess all candidates based on their records, performance and capacity to deliver, rather than personal attacks and political exchanges.

According to the statement, Kalu has directed his campaign team to concentrate on his legislative achievements, infrastructural interventions and human capital development across Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi Local Government Areas.

The Senator’s office said his interventions in education included the construction and renovation of more than 100 school blocks and classrooms, alongside the provision of desks and other learning facilities across communities in the district.

It also said more than 70 road projects had been attracted to Abia North, while educational materials such as STEM textbooks, school bags, sandals and uniforms had been distributed to pupils across the senatorial district.

The statement further disclosed that more than 50 youths and other beneficiaries from the district had benefited from overseas scholarships, international training and capacity-building programmes facilitated through Kalu’s representation.

Thousands of constituents, it added, had also benefited from empowerment programmes involving the distribution of equipment, tools and other forms of economic support.

In the health sector, the Senator’s office cited interventions providing free healthcare services to vulnerable constituents, as well as federal interventions attracted to communities facing erosion, flooding and other environmental challenges.

Kalu’s legislative record also featured prominently in the statement, with his office listing several bills he has sponsored or advanced since his election to the Senate in 2019.

The bills cover areas including education, security, taxation, agriculture, healthcare, transportation, environmental protection, energy, social welfare, justice and economic development.

Among them are the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act Amendment Bill, National Tax Crimes Commission Bill, National Food Bank Establishment Bill and Compulsory Free Universal Basic Education Act Amendment Bill.

Others include bills seeking the establishment of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu; Federal Polytechnic Abiriba; Federal University of Medical Sciences and Biomedical Technology, Umunna, Bende; Federal University of Technology, Ovim; and Federal College of Agriculture, Isiochi.

His office also listed the Nigeria Chinese Language Village Bill, Nigeria Women Trust Fund Bill and Social Welfare Service Bill among the legislative proposals sponsored by the Senator.

On motions, the statement said Kalu had raised issues relating to the rehabilitation of the Eastern Rail Line, rural water supply in Abia North, banking infrastructure, decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity grid, healthcare access for vulnerable Nigerians, renewable energy for health centres, body-worn cameras for law enforcement agencies, crude oil theft, illegal mining, maritime development, research and innovation.

Kalu subsequently directed members of his media team and supporters to allow his achievements, ongoing projects and future plans to form the basis of his campaign for another term in the Senate.

The statement said there should be no insults, personal attacks or responses to provocations involving other candidates in statements from his media office or campaign-related commentaries by his supporters.

Kalu also expressed appreciation to the people of Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi for their support, saying the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for voters to assess his stewardship on the basis of his record in the National Assembly.
