The Church in Bende Local Government Area has thrown its weight behind Labour Party’s candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, with ministers declaring they will pray him into victory in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made on Thursday during a special prayer visit by pastors from across Bende to Dr. Anyaso’s country home in Igbere.
Speaking for the delegation, Rev. Henry Kay of Assemblies of God Church, Bende, said the Church can no longer remain on the sidelines of governance.
“It is time for the Church to gather and build with bricks, no longer stones. We have come to pray and cry unto God on his behalf. There is no way the Church will continually pray for a man and God will not cause him to excel,” Rev. Kay declared.
The Coordinator of the group, Rev. Ibe Uduma, said the clerics had resolved to be more deliberate in shaping leadership in Bende.
He assured Dr. Anyaso of continuous prayers and spiritual support throughout his political journey, noting that the move is part of a broader push to raise God-fearing leaders in the constituency.
Dr. Anyaso, while receiving the ministers, expressed appreciation for their long-standing support.
“This didn’t start today. For over one year, these pastors have been praying for me. Even before the primaries, they said I was the one they would support in prayers to emerge,” he said.
The Labour Party candidate pledged not to disappoint the Church or the people of Bende if elected into the House of Representatives.
“I will not disappoint the Church. Those who seek to take what belongs to God should know that God will not remain silent,” he added.
The visit comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, with Bende Federal Constituency expected to be one of the keenly contested seats in Abia State.
