The Labour Party’s senatorial candidate for Abia North, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex (MFR, OON), has received a major boost to his 2027 campaign following a successful consultation visit to the traditional institution of Nkporo, where he secured the support of royal fathers, community leaders and residents.
The visit marked the final leg of Bourdex’s first phase of consultations with traditional institutions across Ohafia Local Government Area, completing earlier engagements with the Enachioken-in-Council of Abiriba and the Udumeze-in-Council of Ohafia.
The consultation attracted the Eze Aja of Nkporo, members of the Council of Chiefs, community leaders, women, youths and Labour Party supporters, who gathered to receive the party’s delegation in what observers described as a significant show of grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Residents reportedly turned out in large numbers to welcome the delegation, with activities across parts of the community slowing as supporters lined the streets in solidarity with the Labour Party candidate.
Speaking during the visit, Bourdex expressed appreciation for the warm reception, describing it as a reflection of the people’s confidence in the Labour Party and the developmental initiatives of Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s administration.
“I was deeply humbled by the warmth, love and enthusiasm shown by the good people of Nkporo,” he said.

A major highlight of the visit was the traditional reception accorded to the Labour Party delegation by the Eze Aja of Nkporo, who performed customary rites and offered prayers for Bourdex and the party’s leadership.
The royal father prayed for divine wisdom, protection, good health and success for the party’s candidates as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
According to Bourdex, the monarch also assured him of Nkporo’s support for the Labour Party, pledging the community’s backing for Governor Alex Otti, his senatorial bid, as well as Labour Party candidates contesting seats in the House of Representatives and the Abia State House of Assembly.

The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation by youths, who welcomed the delegation with songs, chants and other displays of solidarity.
Bourdex described the youths’ response as encouraging, noting that it reflected an increasing commitment among young people to democratic participation and community development.
He said the engagement reinforced his confidence that the younger generation remains ready to play an active role in shaping the future of Abia North.
Addressing the traditional rulers and community leaders, the Labour Party candidate thanked them for the honour accorded to him and his team, assuring them that the confidence placed in the party would be rewarded with responsible leadership, effective representation and people-centred legislation.

He stressed that the Labour Party’s mission extends beyond electoral victory, adding that the party is committed to sustaining the developmental progress being recorded in Abia State under Governor Otti’s leadership.
“This election is not merely about electing individuals; it is about consolidating the remarkable transformation already taking place under the leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti and ensuring that Abia North has strong, effective and collaborative representation at the National Assembly,” Bourdex stated.
Political observers believe the consultations underscore the strategic role of traditional institutions in grassroots mobilization and community leadership, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
With the successful completion of consultations in Abiriba, Ohafia and Nkporo, the Labour Party says it has concluded the first phase of its engagement with traditional institutions in Ohafia Local Government Area.
Bourdex expressed optimism that the unity and goodwill demonstrated during the consultations would further strengthen the party’s support base across Abia North. He also prayed for sustained peace, unity and development in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia North Senatorial District and Abia State.
