A Senior Secondary School One (SS1) student of Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo, has been arrested after allegedly attempting to kill his best friend in what was reportedly linked to a money ritual.
According to reports, the two students had gone into a bush area together under the guise of performing a “spiritual bath” believed to be connected with a money-making ritual.
However, the situation reportedly took a violent turn when one of the students allegedly attacked his friend and attempted to sever his neck and head.
The victim is said to have fought back during the struggle and managed to escape from the attack.
His cries for help reportedly attracted the attention of villagers in the area, who rushed to the scene and rescued him.
The villagers subsequently mobilised and apprehended the alleged attacker before handing him over to the police.
The suspect is currently said to be in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
The incident has raised concerns over the dangers of ritual-related beliefs among young people and the influence of such practices on vulnerable members of society.
