Former Vice President and a chieftain of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has defended his son, Abba Abubakar for joining the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
AbaCityBlog reports that Abba Abubakar, yesterday joined the APC, he was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin and the National Vice Chairman of the APC, North East, Mustafa Salihu, Thursday evening, in Abuja.
Abba vowed to mobilize support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, an incumbent leader whose his father Atiku Abubakar will be contesting against in 2027 presidential election.

Reacting to his son’s choice of a political party, Atiku said it’s entirely personal. According to him, people should not be alarmed that his son joined the APC, adding that it’s the reason Nigeria is practicing democracy.
“The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal,” Atiku said.
According to him, “In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect.”
“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.”
Continuing, Atiku said he is not bothered that his son joined the APC, stressing that what bothers him is the hardship APC has inflicted on Nigerians.
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.”
“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress.
