Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has commenced the 2026 distribution of educational materials to schools across the five local government areas of the constituency as part of his ongoing commitment to improving education in the region.
The distribution exercise, which began on Thursday, June 4, 2026, includes the provision of school bags, STEM textbooks, exercise books, school uniforms, and other learning materials to pupils in various schools across Abia North.
The initiative was officially flagged off in parts of Bende and Umunneochi Local Government Areas, where pupils, teachers, and parents expressed appreciation for the intervention. Schools that benefited during the initial phase of the exercise include Leru Central School, Umuchieze, in Umunneochi LGA, and Amorji Lodu Primary School, among others.

Speaking through his aides, Barrister Victor Etie and Barrister Ifeanyi Igwe, who represented him at the flag-off ceremonies, Senator Kalu reaffirmed his dedication to supporting educational development and ensuring that pupils have access to the resources needed to enhance learning.
According to the senator, the distribution will extend to schools in Ohafia, Arochukwu, and Isuikwuato local government areas in the coming days, ensuring that students across the entire Abia North Senatorial District benefit from the programme.
Kalu noted that education remains one of the key pillars of his legislative and constituency development agenda. He emphasized that since assuming office, he has consistently invested in the education sector through the regular distribution of learning materials and the execution of infrastructure projects aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment.
The former Abia State governor also highlighted some of his achievements in the education sector, stating that he has facilitated the renovation and construction of more than 2,000 schools across Abia State. He further disclosed that over 3,000 reading desks have been built and donated to schools within Abia North to improve classroom conditions for students.

He reiterated his commitment to continuing investments in education, stressing that empowering young people through quality learning opportunities remains critical to the future development of the constituency and the state at large.
The educational materials distribution programme is expected to reach thousands of pupils across Abia North, providing much-needed support to schools and helping to ease the burden on parents while promoting academic excellence among students.
