Ozioma Okonkwo, a resident of Enugu from Imo State, Nigeria, was released unconditionally after medical evidence disproved his wife Chisom Okonkwo’s allegations of abusing their daughters, aged 2 and 5.

The false claims, stemming from marital disputes over his marijuana use, led to his arrest on October 25, 2025, by Enugu State police, with the children placed in protective custody.

Authorities have now charged Chisom with defamation and false reporting, as Okonkwo seeks custody of the girls.

In a court paper obtained by AbaCityBlog the Enugu State Police command has taken up the matter, charging the woman for defamation.

The court paper reads:

COUNT II: That you Chisom Okonkwo ‘f’ on the 27th day of October, 2025 at State Intelligent Department (SID), Enugu within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did give false information to the Police Detectives that one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ defile your two daughters, which made the Police officers to arrest and detained him, the information you knew to be false and an action he wouldn’t have taken if the true facts were made known to them and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Law of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.
