The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate popular socialite Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, over his recent comments about Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Ogah made the call during a press conference while reacting to Cubana Chief Priest’s criticism of Governor Nwifuru and his call for the governor to step down ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Cubana Chief Priest had recently questioned the level of development in Ebonyi State under Governor Nwifuru, asking how a governor could spend about three years in office without having major projects commissioned by President Bola Tinubu or other state governors.
He also claimed that Ebonyi was the only state in the South-East yet to experience significant development, alleging that some of the state’s leaders were “not wise enough” and were still living in the past.
The comments have now drawn a strong reaction from Ogah, who questioned Cubana Chief Priest’s background and what he described as his audacity to make political demands concerning the Ebonyi State governorship.
“Who is Cubana Chief Priest? What does he do for a living? Who gave him the audacity to speak against the Ebonyi State Governor?” Ogah asked.
The lawmaker also accused Cubana Chief Priest of being among those allegedly attempting to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s support for the South-East.
“He is part of those discrediting President Tinubu’s support in the South-East. Is it about drinking?” Ogah said.
Ogah Calls for EFCC Investigation
Ogah went further to call for an EFCC investigation into what he described as alleged money-laundering activities involving Cubana Chief Priest.
The lawmaker, however, did not provide details or publicly presented evidence substantiating the allegation during the press conference.
His demand for an investigation follows the controversy generated by Cubana Chief Priest’s comments on Governor Nwifuru and the political direction of Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The exchange has added another layer to the growing political conversation in Ebonyi State, where the performance of Governor Nwifuru and the state’s political future are already attracting increased public attention.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, comments from politicians, public figures and influential personalities are expected to continue generating debate over leadership, development and political succession in the South-East.
