Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed gratitude to the people of Abia North and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Abia North Senatorial election.
In a message addressed to supporters, party stakeholders, and residents of the senatorial district, Kalu thanked God for what he described as the privilege to continue serving the people, while also appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC leaders, members of the OUK Movement and Reality Organisation, and party faithful for their support and confidence in him.
The former governor particularly appreciated the people of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi Local Government Areas for their continued trust and encouragement over the years.
Reflecting on his time in the Senate, Kalu said that within less than six and a half years, he had worked to strengthen the voice of Abia North at the National Assembly while attracting developmental projects to communities across the district.
According to him, he has sponsored more than 20 bills in the Senate, including amendments to the Electoral Act, Armed Forces Act, Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and Universal Basic Education Act, alongside bills focused on environmental regulation, food security, taxation, green mobility, and decentralisation of railway and electricity powers.
He also stated that he consistently advocated reforms aimed at improving security and governance at the grassroots level through stronger community policing structures.
On infrastructure development, Kalu disclosed that over 70 road projects had been attracted across the five local government areas of Abia North through strategic partnerships and effective representation.
The senator further highlighted interventions in the healthcare and education sectors, noting that vulnerable residents had benefited from free healthcare services through the National Health Insurance Scheme.
In education, he said his administration facilitated the renovation and construction of more than 100 schools, while also distributing desks, instructional materials, STEM textbooks, school uniforms, and sandals to pupils across communities.
Kalu also revealed that foreign scholarships and overseas training opportunities were secured for youths and women in different sectors as part of efforts to promote human capital development.
Speaking on economic development, the APC chieftain said investments had been attracted to the district, including the completed Cashew Processing Factory in Igbere, as well as ongoing Solar Panel Factory and Keke Manufacturing Plant projects aimed at creating jobs and boosting economic growth.
He added that thousands of women and youths had benefited from empowerment programmes through the distribution of tools, equipment, and support materials, while interventions were also carried out in communities affected by erosion and flooding.
Reaffirming his commitment to the people, Kalu said leadership should be focused on creating opportunities and building a brighter future for communities across Abia North.
He expressed optimism that the people of the district would continue to support his vision for a “prosperous, united, and progressive Abia North” ahead of the 2027 election.
