The Federal Government has commenced the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a cash assistance programme designed to support poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria with ₦50,000 in financial relief.

The intervention, announced by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction on October 30, 2026, is aimed at helping eligible Nigerians cope with rising food prices and the increasing cost of essential goods.

Under the programme, selected beneficiaries will receive financial support directly into their mobile wallets through approved digital financial service providers.

The Federal Government said the initiative would be implemented through licensed payment platforms to ensure transparent and secure delivery of the funds.

How to Check Eligibility for the FG ₦50,000 Relief Fund

Nigerians interested in checking their eligibility can use the official USSD codes provided by the approved payment service providers.

According to the NERSI programme portal, beneficiaries can check their selection status through the following platforms:

1. OPay

OPay users can dial *955*20# using their registered phone numbers and follow the instructions to check their eligibility and accept the support if selected.

Alternatively, eligible customers can log into their OPay applications and check for the NERSI relief notification.

2. ALAT by Wema Bank

Customers using ALAT by Wema Bank can dial *945*23# and follow the instructions.

3. MTN MoMo

MTN MoMo customers can dial *671*0# to access the programme’s eligibility and payment options.

4. NairaGram

NairaGram users can dial *726*00# to check their status and follow the instructions provided.

5. Moniepoint

Moniepoint customers can dial *5573*27# or use the official Moniepoint application to access the support.

The Federal Government has also listed Xpress Payments among the approved payment providers, although its access details are yet to be published on the programme’s portal.

Who Is Eligible for the N50,000 Federal Government Support?

According to the Federal Government, beneficiaries are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register.

The programme specifically targets poor and vulnerable households that meet the government’s selection criteria.

However, the government has clarified that not everyone will qualify for the intervention, as beneficiaries are selected based on verified records and assessed needs.

Payments are also being made in phases, meaning that eligible individuals may receive notifications at different times.

Nigerians who have not received an SMS notification should not automatically assume that they have been permanently excluded from the programme.

Do You Need to Register or Pay to Receive the N50,000?

The Federal Government has clarified that there is no public registration process or application fee for the NERSI intervention.

Selected beneficiaries will receive SMS notifications from approved payment providers requesting their consent before the funds are credited to their mobile wallets.

The government has warned Nigerians against individuals or agents demanding money in exchange for registration, approval or assistance in securing the relief fund.

Beneficiaries are also advised not to share their bank PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), passwords or other sensitive security information with anyone.

The programme does not require beneficiaries to click suspicious links or pay money to unlock their support.

How to Verify Information About the N50,000 Relief Programme

Nigerians seeking additional information about the intervention can visit the Federal Government’s official NERSI portal:

Official website: https://www.fmhapr.gov.ng/nersi/

NERSI official helpline: 0700-022-2222.

The helpline is available for enquiries about eligibility, payment notifications and complaints relating to the programme.

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to rely on official information and avoid falling victim to fraudsters exploiting the relief intervention.

As the disbursement continues, eligible beneficiaries are encouraged to check their status through the approved payment channels and follow the instructions provided by their respective service providers.

The government says the intervention is part of its ongoing efforts to provide immediate financial assistance to vulnerable households and reduce the impact of economic hardship across the country.
