After three years of largely aimless perambulations in the corridors of the National Assembly, Obi Aguocha has returned to his constituency expecting praise and a smooth endorsement for a second term.
But what has he achieved to merit that support? The available facts paint a stark picture: Aguocha has failed spectacularly as a lawmaker in virtually every respect.
In lawmaking – sponsoring bills and motions and contributing meaningfully to debates on the most important legislation such as the Annual Appropriation Bill—he has nothing to show.
In representation, where a lawmaker should be a clear voice for constituents, he was largely absent. In constituency intervention projects, empowerment and welfare packages, Aguocha has no credible scorecard. Rather than improving the wellbeing of his people, he allegedly plundered resources meant for them. A notable example is the federal government” rice palliative consignment from late 2023 – rice valued at over N600 million – which Aguocha has neither distributed nor accounted for till date
For three years he could not attract even a one-room classroom or any capital project to his constituency. None of his bills moved beyond second reading, reflecting their unrealistic scope and lack of impact. His campaign promises – such as a second local government for Ikwuano LGA and a second state constituency for Ikwuano LGA – now look like empty, bogus pledges without the capacity to be realized.
Aguocha’s elusive, selfish and greedy tendencies were further exposed by his failure to open even a kiosk as a constituency office as envisaged by the 1999 Constitution, as amended. All these shortcomings explain why voters in Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency have emphatically declared his second-term ambition dead on arrival.
Instead of confronting and fixing his self-inflicted damage, Obi Aguocha has chosen to display more wickedness and animosity by attacking Rt Hon Chinedum Orji. This response is telling: rather than offering solutions or showing contrition, he resorts to envy and public vilification.
Aguocha’s self-centred and greedy approach fails to recognize that society rewards quality leadership. He seems to forget that in this country families and individuals who serve with distinction often continue to contribute across generations – examples include Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s family; The Yar’Adua family, and the Uzor Kalu family in Abia State. These examples show how public service and leadership can create lasting, positive legacies.
Obi Aguocha appears consumed by envy and jealousy toward those who have served and risen through public life. He seems unable to accept that Senator Theodore A. Orji served as a civil servant, became a democratically elected governor for eight years and later a senator for eight years, and that Rt Hon Chinedum Orji his son has to chart his own path in life as no two individuals even twins share similar destiny and assignment on earth.
Aguocha’s inability to fathom this stems from a mindset that has never embraced the responsibilities and joys of family and public service. Instead of channeling energy into constructive service, he wallows in destructive sentiments. Hatred is self-consuming; it corrodes the hater more than the target. He should stop being envious and learn to work for the people, not for his stomach.
From all indications Obi Aguocha is the source and promoter of the numerous false accusations against the Orji family. Ironically, he has cowardly refused to step forward as a principal witness to prove the veracity of his envy conceived accusations. When the name Obi Aguocha is mentioned in a gathering of men, little wonder he is waved aside with ignominy: a politician who wasted a four-year of trust and wasted such in gossips, envious concoctions of malicious slander and appropriation of the common wealth for self aggrandisement.
Rt Hon Chinedum Orji continues to be the clear favourite of voters because he consistently delivers transformational and proactive leadership when elected to office. His record of service and visible impact stands in sharp contrast to the performance of some contemporaries, and that contrast shapes voter sentiment across the State.
In 2027, the choice before the citizizens of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency is clear: Waste another four years of wealth creation and socio-economic opportunity by returning Aguocha to continue in his ineptness and incompetence or ensure that a leader like
Chinedum Orji who has demonstrated transformational, proactive leadership that produces tangible results for the people is elected to the House of Representatives
Final Advice to Obi Aguocha
Obi Aguocha should stop being envious. Hatred is self-consuming. He should learn to work for the people and not for his stomach. If he redirects his energy toward genuine service, accountability and tangible constituency projects, he may yet redeem his public standing. Until then, voters will continue to favour leaders like Chinedum Orji who consistently deliver transformational and proactive leadership when elected to office.
